Commissions for my top surgery fund!

If you don’t know me, I’m Will - a disabled nonbinary transmasc. I’m trying to save up for top surgery this year - the total cost and reasoning of which is outlined on my ko-fi - and I am hoping to get some commissions to put towards this!

I want to start with my ko-fi donation commissions: quick 5 minute sketches of whatever the hell you want. The cost of these is $3 AUD or more (a ko-fi donation), and you can just write in the message part of the ko-fi what you would like me to draw (or message me on tumblr or insta with proof of donation if you want). I’ll post the sketch on instagram, tumblr, and ko-fi unless you specifically ask me not to and give me somewhere else to send it. If the sketch you want is NSFW, I will not post it - only message directly to you. These sketches can be used for any non-commercial reason, but I ask that if you do use or post them somewhere please link back to my insta, tumblr, or ko-fi. If you don’t want to use ko-fi, message me for my PayPal.

Next is my pet commissions! I’ve been doing these for years now. Starting at $40 AUD and increasing depending on the complexity. I do realistic pet portraits, galaxy pet portraits, and I can also do oil-paint style pet portraits. If you would like one of these please message me for more details. I have endless slots, but whoever asks first will get their portrait first. These are paid via PayPal or you can send the payment via ko-fi if you don’t have PayPal. For these I generally ask for half payment up-front and the other half upon completion. Again these can be used for anything non-commercial and limited commercial reasons (please ask for more info if you need it) but I do request credit.

Logo/graphic design commissions! Starting at $45 AUD and increasing with complexity. Pretty much the same details as above - message me for more info, paid via PayPal or ko-fi.

People portraits! Starting at $45 aud, there are three main styles - the painted style, the graphic style, and the fully illustrated style. Different levels of shading on each of these will change the price a bit (but not a whole lot). The fully illustrated style (the last picture), is the most complex and will start at $55aud. I will draw anyone in any pose, reference pictures are hugely appreciated but not a must (time + cost will increase without them as I’ll have to find my own). Payment methods etc as above.

Lastly:

I will draw NSFW at a slightly increased cost, I will draw your fursona, I will draw pretty much anything as long as I don’t think it’s in poor taste (no hate symbols, obviously). Detailed backgrounds are generally around $5 extra, extra figures in the same drawing (2 pets instead of one, two people) are $30 extra.

Please reblog this to help out a trans artist!!

Anyway if all of my followers took a $3 ko-fi sketch that would be over $6k, and over half of what I need to save. That would be pretty rad and would save my ass from some pretty awful and depressing dysphoria.

My first two ko-fi sketches!!

I don’t know how to draw a teapot, apparently

Also, tagging this as ā€œWill’s comm postā€ so blacklist that if you don’t want to keep seeing this longass post every time I get a commission or reblog for exposure.

Ahaha

image

So now I definitely am in need of some commissions due to I was fired with no notice from my job (they let my whole department go) so bls hit me up

Another sketch commission!!!

Another commission done! I also uploaded the 8 minute long time-lapse to YouTube. This is 11.5 hours of work condensed and I always find it interesting to watch.

Cool Tip

If you are like me and always need to be working on something to keep your anxiety under control, during this quarentine why not helping scientists by looking at pictures of some neat penguins? or even galaxies?Ā
There’s this site call Zooniverse, where you can help on scientific projects by analyzing pictures and data!Ā

Right now my favorite project has returned, called Penguin Watch (where yeah, you get to watch penguins, it’s amazing)

image

you basically have to analyse photos looking for penguins, their chicks, eggs or even predators and human interaction

But there are lots of interesting projects you can help in areas such as biology, physics, historyĀ or even art:Ā

Oh and the best part, some institutions even accept it as volunteering/service hour requirements for graduation and scholarships!!
It’s helping me a lot during this time, so I thought it was worth sharingĀ

Zooniverse is awesome. They have a relatively new project classifying and transcribing recordings of vintage Cuban radio around the revolution.

Another project is about the fan and hate mail sent to Orson Welles after the broadcast of War of the Worlds.

Another project is rescuing data from handwritten records from a Scottish weather station.

people who wait for you to tie your shoe. people who shift closer to you when you’re subconsciously moving away while you’re walking next to them. people who smile at you as soon as you make eye contact. people who seek you out to tell you some good news. people who listen to you and hear you and understand you. do not make the mistake of ever convincing yourself that everyone is a bad person when you yourself have done this and not even thought twice about it

Hot take but praise is a good tool for encouraging healthy behavior. Positive reinforcement is good. Relying exclusively on punishment to change people’s behavior is both cruel and ineffective. If someone does better than they did yesterday, let them know you appreciate it, let them know that they’re improving!

“Don’t praise anyone for doing the bare minimum” is a shitty take that prioritizes your sense of superiority over the actual betterment of people. I understand that things shouldn’t be as bad as they are, and anger can often be justified, but you need to get over the propaganda that kindness is naïve, that cynicism and bitterness are intellectual. Withholding praise from those who haven’t caught up with you doesnt actually help them, it doesn’t motivate, it doesn’t encourage, it only discourages them. It breeds bitterness and apathy, which are antithetical to empathy.

Growth isn’t something you do on your own. People need support, they need community. Bootstraps won’t get them there. Kindness will. Do you want results or do you just want to feel superior?

Some rando: This character should not have the chance to become a better person

Me: Why

Same person: Because they are a bad person!

Me: But what if that character was allowed to become a better person so that they are no longer a bad person?

Same person: You’re an abuse apologist

I would love for every bad person to become a good person. I’d think most humans think that it’d be a cool and great thing if all bad people became good.

A cool and great thing, which we can play pretend with in fiction, knowing it’s not realistic, just to feel a little better about the shitty real world we live in.

tbh, I think the problem is that people confuse “getting a redemption arc” with “being rewarded with what comes after a redemption arc”

like, redeemed villains are generally friends with the heroes. they get to experience love and The Power of Friendship for the first time, if they haven’t already. they generally get to experience forgiveness. if their motives are based off of some kind of trauma or pain (like a lot of redeemed villains) then they will probably have that resolved and get some sense of closure or inner peace from whatever is hurting them.

so when they say that “this character doesn’t deserve a redemption arc” what they mean is “this character doesn’t deserve to be loved. they don’t deserve happiness, peace, or companionship”. the alternatives I have seen are:

“I hope that this character realizes how awful they are and they kill themselves”

“I hope this character is redeemed by a heroic sacrifice” (meaning they would be redeemed but wouldn’t be alive to experience the “reward” afterwards)

“I hope this character begs and pleads for forgiveness over and over again, but is never forgiven”

it’s pretty disturbing tbh, to treat basic things that every human needs (like being loved) as a “reward” that you get for good behavior. or more accurately: never being bad in the first place. that once you fall from grace you’re damned for eternity.

I think this post exposes a really gross underbelly to purity culture bullshit that I don’t think I examined quite this way before.

If redemption is unacceptable, if bad behavior can never be forgiven, what is the alternative?

Because it sure seems like the alternative is “Indefinate suffering = justice.”

“Indefinite suffering = justice” is a basic premise of Christianity fwiw

“No one mourns the wicked….”

i think we, as a culture, have moved too far away from fantasy films where every plot thread is like “the dragon rider and the werewolf joined a crew of sky pirates and hit a storm of cloud-eels but luckily they were saved by a friendly pod of star whales” or whatever the fuck was going on with movies like stardust and time bandits . it’s doesn’t necessarily make a good film but i feel like there’s something deep in our lizard brains that craves stories entirely made up of weird bullshit

things to take from the notes here

1) a lot of people think i’m saying stardust is bad (i’m not)

2) absolutely no one is defending time bandits

For alternatives.

  • Firefox remains best in show in the category of ā€œbrowsers that won’t do this bullshit.ā€ It’s got a long, long history of trust, a sizable userbase, and a decent amount of privacy built in, with more extensions and customization options than you’ll ever need. However, note that it can sometimes perform slowly, especially with a lot of tabs open.
  • Opera is a slightly lesser-known browser, and my personal main browser for day-to-day use. It has a built-in VPN (though this can be slow at times), adblocker, and anti-tracking tools, with more available via extensions. Opera’s userbase is slightly smaller, so overall less extensions are available than Firefox, and (in my experience) it generally needs a few settings to be tweaked on first startup to make it comfortable to use (notably, the keyboard shortcuts are different from chrome/firefox).
  • DuckDuckGo is a privacy-focused search engine that also has (at least) a mobile browser (for Android devices). I’m not honestly sure if they have a desktop or Apple version, but the mobile browser provides many similar safety features to Opera. I find Opera more convenient for casual browsing, but if you’re very conscious of online security, DuckDuckGo might be the way to go.
  • Microsoft Edge exists. Don’t use it.

Please do yourself a favor and stop using Chrome!

Ecosia isn’t Chrome based, right? that’s what ive been using, for the trees, and it says it doesn’t save your history but i wanted to check

I’m afraid so. And based on many other Chrome based browser scandals, I don’t trust it.

dammit. ill download firefox then :/ thanks for letting me know

edit: how do you actually download it

edit edit: wHY does it send me to GOOGLE, IMMEDIATELY upon downloading it????? like i have the app and it says ā€œfirefox browserā€ and it’s talking all about how secure it is etc but the little rainbow G icon is right next to the actual browser and theres a link right to Google on the firefox homepage how do i stop that

So from my understanding Firefox uses Google but it blocks all the trackers

that makes sense! ty!! i ended up changing the default browser to duckduckgo anyway (and deleted google and amazon off of the browser options anyway) but i appreciate it!!! (im afraid this all becomes null and void with me using only gmail as all of my email accs but there’s not much i can really do anything about that. hopefully firefox will block gmail from seeing my searches through the gmail account i used to sign in :///)

I’d recommend Protonmail, as a substitute for gmail. It’s a Swiss based end-to-end encrypted email service that is expanding to Proton-calander and Proton-drive with their paid version. Their ProtonVPN also has a free version with limited locations. They also have apps for both android and apple.

To boost Firefox, I’d add-on-

  • Facebook Container- isolates your Facebook activity from the rest of your web activity in order to prevent Facebook from tracking you outside of the Facebook website via third party cookies.
  • HTTPS Everywhere- Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site.
  • Privacy Badger automatically learns to block invisible trackers. Instead of keeping lists of what to block, Privacy Badger automatically discovers trackers based on their behavior.
  • Privacy Possum monkey wrenches common commercial tracking methods by reducing and falsifying the data gathered by tracking companies.
  • uBlock Origin is not an ā€œad blockerā€, it’s a wide-spectrum content blocker with CPU and memory efficiency as a primary feature.
  • Firefox Multi-Account Containers lets you carve out a separate box for each of your online lives – no more opening a different browser just to check your work email! Here is a quick video showing you how it works.
Under the hood, it separates website storage into tab-specific Containers. Cookies downloaded by one Container are not available to other Containers. With the Firefox Multi-Account Containers extension, you can…
    • Sign in to two different accounts on the same site. For example, you could sign in to work email and home email in two different Container tabs.
    • Keep different kinds of browsing far away from each other (for example, you might use one Container tab for managing your Checking Account and a different Container tab for searching for new songs by your favorite band)
    • Avoid leaving social-network footprints all over the web (for example, you could use a Container tab for signing in to a social network, and use a different tab for visiting online news sites, keeping your social identity separate from tracking scripts on news sites)
  • Enhancer for YouTubeā„¢-Ā  Built to get the most out of YouTube, this extension comes packed with all sorts of features that allow you, among other things, to manage ads as you wish, control the playback speed and the volume level with the mouse wheel, automate repetitive tasks such as selecting the appropriate playback quality, configure dozens of keyboard shortcuts to control YouTube like a pro, and much more.
  • Decentraleyes- Protects you against tracking through ā€œfreeā€, centralized, content delivery.
    • Protects privacy by evading large delivery networks that claim to offer free services.
    • Complements regular blockers such as uBlock Origin (recommended), Adblock Plus, et al.
    • Works directly out of the box; absolutely no prior configuration required.
  • Bitwarden- A secure and free password manager for all of your devices. Bitwarden is the easiest and safest way to store all of your logins and passwords while conveniently keeping them synced between all of your devices.

Several of these also have companion versions in Firefox mobile.

If you are interested in other trustworthy add-ons, this icon shows that the add-on is an editorially curated extension that meet the highest standards of security, functionality, and user experience. Firefox staff, along with community participation, selects each extension and manually reviews them for security and policy compliance before they receive Recommended status.

Good luck! @ or message me if you need anything else.

Edit: I’d make a firefox account so you can log in and sync tabs/bookmarks across devices.

holy shit this is insane thank you so much!!!

Long post but very useful addons. Press j to skip

Thanks for this post!! I need to update all my stuff, and my laptop just died so now is a good time to start. I am mad that Google docs seems to be the best/most convenient doc sharing system out there at the moment, does anyone have any alternatives?
